Rehabilitation of Ziarat Residency: A Proud Heritage Restored by Unitone Engineers

At Unitone Engineers, we are privileged to have been entrusted with the vital task of rehabilitating and preserving the iconic Ziarat Residency—one of Pakistan’s most treasured historical landmarks. Known as the final residence of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the Residency holds immense significance, not just as a building, but as a symbol of our nation’s history. It was an honor for our team to contribute to the restoration of this national monument.

Our approach to the project was rooted in a deep respect for the Residency’s rich heritage, and we were fully committed to ensuring that its historical integrity was maintained throughout the rehabilitation process. Here’s an overview of how we brought our expertise and craftsmanship to the task

1. Structural Repairs and Reinforcement: Our first step was to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the building’s structure. We identified areas that needed reinforcement and worked meticulously to strengthen the foundation, walls, and roof. Using advanced techniques, we ensured that the building would remain stable and safe for years to come, while preserving its original design.
2. Restoring Wooden Features: The Ziarat Residency is renowned for its Victorian-style wooden architecture, which is integral to its charm. Our team of skilled craftsmen worked tirelessly to restore the intricate woodwork, replacing damaged sections with period-appropriate materials. Every detail, from the external timber frame to the interior panels, was carefully restored to its former glory.
3. Conserving Paintwork: One of the most delicate aspects of the project was preserving the building’s original paintwork. We used specialized conservation techniques to remove layers of old paint without damaging the underlying surfaces. Then, we repainted both the interior and exterior of the Residency using colors that were true to the building’s historical palette.
4. Upgrading for Modern Comfort: While the primary focus of our work was preservation, we also recognized the need to integrate modern amenities for visitors. We upgraded the electrical systems, improved lighting, and enhanced air circulation—all in a way that respected the building’s original design. These upgrades allow visitors to experience the Residency in comfort, while still stepping back in time.

We carefully restored the surrounding gardens and pathways, ensuring that they complemented the Residency’s heritage. Our landscaping work was designed to enhance the visitor experience and maintain the tranquil environment that makes this site so special.
